# Entry Requirements for Indian Citizens Visiting Nepal

Nepal and India share one of the world's most open bilateral travel arrangements. Indian citizens are permitted to enter Nepal without a visa and may stay indefinitely. This guide covers everything you need to know.

## Documents Required

Indian nationals may enter Nepal using any of the following:

**Accepted Documents:** - Valid Indian Passport (expired passports may be accepted — check current border policies) - Voter ID Card (with photo, issued by Election Commission of India) - Government-issued Photo ID

**Not Accepted:** - Driving Licence - PAN Card - ₹2,000 currency notes as any form of payment in Nepal

## Border Crossing Procedure

### Land Border Entry 1. Approach the Nepal immigration checkpost 2. Present your ID document to the immigration officer 3. Register in the visitor log (name, ID number, purpose of visit) 4. Cross the border — no stamp is required for Indian nationals at most crossings 5. If you have a vehicle, complete customs/vehicle permit forms at the transport office

### By Air (Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu) 1. Proceed to the Indian nationals' designated immigration lane 2. Present Indian passport 3. No visa required, no fee payable 4. Passport is stamped on entry

## Currency Rules

- Indian Rupees (₹100, ₹200, ₹500 denominations) are accepted throughout Nepal - **₹2,000 notes are NOT accepted** anywhere in Nepal — exchange them before departure - Coins are generally not accepted - Exchange rate: fixed at approximately NPR 1.60 per INR 1.00

## What to Declare at Customs

- Foreign currency above USD 5,000 (or equivalent) must be declared - Carrying Indian Rupees into Nepal is permitted without restriction - Prohibited items: firearms, narcotics, pornographic materials - Restricted: antiques (strict export controls), wildlife products

## Returning to India

- No re-entry visa required for Indian nationals - You may carry up to NPR 25,000 back to India - Items purchased in Nepal are subject to Indian customs duties above the duty-free allowance
