A glacial amphitheatre at 4,130 metres encircled by the Annapurna Massif — the most dramatic mountain sanctuary reachable on a standard Nepal trek.

Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) sits at 4,130 metres in the Annapurna Sanctuary, a glacial basin ringed on all sides by peaks above 6,000 metres including Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna South, Machapuchare, and Hiunchuli. The classic route begins in Nayapul (1.5 hours from Pokhara by road) and takes 7–12 days return through rhododendron forests, Modi Khola valley, Chomrong, and Deurali. The final approach crosses the Modi Glacier moraine and arrives in the sanctuary at dawn to witness the sun strike the surrounding peaks — one of the most moving sights in trekking. Permits required: ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area) and TIMS card, both obtainable in Pokhara.
